Just Call Me the Cook

My last two days have been spent focusing on food. And no, it didn't include the "why did I eat so much" focus (well, maybe a little yesterday; I went to my grandma's so it was to be expected). This happened because I baked a bit and cooked dinner.

My mom likes to go to my grandparents' house once a week and hang out with them. Yesterday I decided to tag along and bake a chocolate chiffon cake with my grandma. It was a lot of fun. Chiffon cakes are a bit difficult, so with some missteps and a lot of laughs we finally got it in the oven. I'm glad I got to spend that time with my grandma, and, for those of you out there with a sweet tooth, the cake turned out great!

I decided not to ice the cake yesterday, but after tasting it I decided it needed icing. Since I ended up not working today, I got down to business making icing. I decided to make cupcakes as well because only half of the cake was left (due to having five brothers who eat things quickly that taste good) and a half batch of icing was too much for just the cake. Oh my, both the cake and the cupcakes are divine! It's pretty cool to have my choice of chocolate chiffon cake with fudge icing and/or French vanilla cupcakes with fudge icing for dessert. Well, after dinner I had both with some ice cream!

Oh and after all that baking I cooked dinner. Got to give my mom a break now and then. And now I need a break!

Oh, to be in Australia

I love, love, love traveling and the last time I traveled out of the country was to Australia in summer 2004. It was a wonderful trip and Australia is a great country! It was a Chapman University choir trip and we performed the Berlioz Requiem in the Sydney Opera House. Yes, it was amazing! I hope I get to visit again soon.

Our first stop was Sydney and then we went on to Cairns. Some of the highlights: cruise around the Sydney harbor, the Olympic stadium, lots of opals, McDonald's (really tasty!), rehearsals with the orchestra, Hard Rock Cafe to get a pin, St. Mary's Cathedral where we saw part of a wedding, dinner at the Sydney Tower Restaurant (like the Seattle Space Needle and it rotated), performing in the Sydney Opera House (spectacular!), the resort in Cairns, train trip to Kuranda (so gorgeous), holding a koala, learning how to throw a boomerang and spear at the Aboriginal Center and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef (there's nothing else like it!). Ahh, now I really want to go back!

If I could tame a wild animal

I would have a koala bear as a pet. I held one when I went to Australia and they're so cute. I've heard koalas aren't that nice of animals so I think life would become a bit crazy.

Abandon Ship

I have to get out of my house! I've been working all day on applying and finding jobs to apply to, which means I've been home all day (except when I took Perry to and from school). And I feel like I'm suffocating. The air is stale, the walls are closing in on me, the brothers are annoying and I'm feeling stressed about getting a job. Oh, why did I have to turn on Oprah and listen to them talk about money and the recession?!? Well, I'm leaving. I'm going to go deposit my mini-paycheck. Hopefully that will be refreshing enough since everything else I want to get done today involves being at home.

Project Runway is coming back!

The lawsuit was over Weinstein moving the show from Bravo to Lifetime. Well, I was really happy to read in the newspaper this morning that the parties have settled the suit and Project Runway will be back in the summer!

I really love this show. I find it so fascinating to watch the designers create their own works of art week after week with so little time. Wow. Of course there is a lot of drama the whole time. Just thinking about it makes me excited! And I can't wait to see Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and the guest judges. I'm excited to watch the new season. And, while I don't know what changes, if any, the move to Lifetime will mean to Project Runway, I know that Project Runway will "make it work" and "carry on!"
